Member Spotlight: Do it with JOY!
She’s got a way about her.
This month’s member spotlight interview is with Joy Hansen, life coach and joy instigator. She has a way of carrying light in and around her throughout each day. Even when she’s in one of her serious and hyper focused business strategy modes, it seems to be laced with a silver lining of support and a sense of — this is doable.
TELL US ABOUT YOU - WHAT DO YOU DO?:
I support high achieving, driven women in uncovering the joy that is hidden within them just dying to come out! We get so busy as motivated driven women and sometimes we forget that the point is to enjoy life!
DESCRIBE WHAT MAKES YOUR WORK/PRODUCT/SERVICE DIFFERENT OR BETTER THAN OTHERS IN YOUR INDUSTRY.:
My perspective on how I live my life and what I teach is that JOY (our passion, or love, all the things that make us want to jump out of bed in the morning) is the fuel that makes everything else possible and meaningful. It's what makes our work effective and without it, we become dry, frustrated, overwhelmed and burnt out. I do not coach my clients to grin and bear it. I coach to not only get results but to find that JOY, that passion that love for what you're doing and we don't move forward without it! And that there is not ever any reason to sacrifice that for the illusion of something better in the future.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO (YOUR LINE OF WORK?:
Back at the height of Starbucks' success, I was hired as a manager. It was a great job and so much fun! I got to work with fun people who were committed to success and personal and professional growth and we were booming as a company. But after 8 years with the company, I started to burn out. I was exhausted working so many hours. I felt empty inside and disconnected from my true authentic joy. I didn’t want to move up any more in the company and I wasn’t satisfied staying where I was. I wanted my own thing. I didn’t want to be selling someone else’s dream...I wanted my own.
So my plan was to start my own business and live my own dream and everything was going perfectly but then in 2011, my Mom passed away.
And then I lost a family member every year for 5 years in a row. And then in year 6, my dad got remarried and my life changed again.
I tried and tried to just keep moving forward. I kept going to seminars, kept buying programs, kept trying the newest strategy for my business but I just kept not hitting my stride. It felt like an uphill battle.
I was struggling through grief and heavy emotions on a daily basis and yet I kept trying to move forward.
I didn’t have the clients I wanted in my business…it was hard!
I kept trying to do what everyone else said I should do…you need this funnel! You need this workshop! You need to do Facebook LIVES…
But it wasn’t until I stopped trying to do all the things that everyone was saying I should do and started doing what I knew to do. I needed to connect to ME again. I needed to find out what I needed, what I wanted at this time of my life…how I needed to proceed now that I had lost my CORE support system in my life. When I did that! The clients started flowing in. I found (or she found me) an amazing client that has turned into one of my best friends. I feel in the flow now with clients and it’s no longer a struggle.
I feel connected and at peace now. I know that I am enough just the way I am. I became grounded and certain of who I am which means that I have my own internal compass that guides me rather than being swayed by the latest and greatest tool or platform that someone is claiming I need out there.
I believe now that I have everything I need. Inside me…not out there.
I believe now that I can make choices that are aligned with my true self and my core desires and not live from a place of fear that I have to try every new thing and that I must be missing something…I know I have everything I need inside me and it feels great!
And ALL THAT TO SAY...I want that for others too! : )
